1 Data for Polkomtel and Polkomtel Infrastruktura.
Polkomtel has for many years been consistently encouraging its customers to adopt a pro-ecological attitude. At the company’s stationary points of sale one can drop waste equipment (handsets, accessories, etc.) which will be later on subjected, free-of-charge, to recycling. Special containers are also available where waste accessories can be dropped. In total, in 2020 we supplied over 19 tons of waste electronic equipment for recycling.
Cyfrowy Polsat has been continuously cooperating with the companies which collect and process all kinds of waste produced by the company. In 2020 Cyfrowy Polsat supplied more than 572 tons of waste to specialized recycling firms, with electro-waste accounting for more than 61% of the total mass of the supplied waste.
Good practice
Electro-waste recycling
All of the electro-waste produced by the employees performing repairs of customer devices as well as the equipment intended for scrapping go to specialized recycling firms. In 2020 Cyfrowy Polsat shipped more than 352 tons of waste electrical and electronic equipment for recycling (351 tons in 2019).
Recycling of documents
The documents intended for recycling are shredded with the use of a heavy duty shredder. The shredder grinds the material in line with DIN norm (security level III) while the output is successively conveyed as paper waste for recycling.
Recycling of packaging materials
The waste we produce, i.e. paper, plastics, Styrofoam, is carefully segregated by us. There are five big, clearly marked containers for collecting waste at our HQ location, and in addition we purchased a machine for flattening of cardboard, which enables more effective storing and more economical loading of waste cardboard. In 2020 we supplied more than 205 tons of cardboard and paper and more than 3 tons of plastic film and Styrofoam for recycling.
Set-top boxes (STB’s) are used for receiving satellite TV. Our InterPhone Service STB factory has modern machinery and professional staff. The factory’s location in the EURO-PARK MIELEC Special Economic Zone guarantees that we do not generate any adverse impact on valuable natural areas.
Good practice
InterPhone Service STB factory holds ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certificates, as well as ISO 45001:2018 certificate in the field of manufacturing of electronic telecommunication equipment and appliances.
We make all efforts to ensure that the equipment manufactured in our factory has as little impact on natural environment as possible. That is why we try to make sure that all devices we manufacture are packed in ecological packaging, which means that:
Also every set-top box delivered to Cyfrowy Polsat customers is ecological – its specification always complies with the valid norms while power consumption in stand-by mode is smaller than 1W. We also try to re-use the equipment as much as possible – the equipment is loaned to customers for a specific period and upon being returned and refreshed it goes back to the market.
In addition, while bearing in mind organizational efficiency, costs and reduction of CO2 emission, we take care that the trucks and vans which transport the equipment to the sales network are loaded in an optimum way.
